BITCHOLOGY

This, received in email from a friend of mine today, sums it all up quite nicely:

When I stand up for
myself and my beliefs,
they call me a

bitch.

When I stand up for
those I love,
they call me a

bitch.

When I speak my mind,
think my own thoughts
or do things my own way,
they call me a

bitch.

Being a bitch
means I won't
compromise what's
in my heart.

It means I live my life
MY way.

It means I won't allow
anyone to step on me.

When I refuse to
tolerate injustice and
speak against it, I am
defined as a

bitch.

The same thing happens
when I take time for
myself instead of being
everyone's maid,
or when I act a little selfish.

It means I have the courage and strength
to allow myself to be who I
truly am and won't become anyone
else's idea of what they think I
"should" be.

I am outspoken, opinionated and determined.
I want what I want and there is nothing
wrong with that!

So try to stomp on me,
try to douse my inner flame,
try to squash every ounce of
beauty I hold
within me.

You won't succeed.

And if that makes me a bitch ,
so be it.

I embrace the title and
am proud to bear it.

B - Babe
I - In
T - Total
C - Control of
H - Herself

B = Beautiful
I = Intelligent
T = Talented
C = Charming
H = Hell of a Woman

B = Beautiful
I = Individual
T = That
C = Can
H = Handle anything

  • I encourage you to read the book "Desiring God" by John Piper. He asserts that real Christianity is really Christian Hedonism. He insists that the desire for pleasure and joy are not bad - in and of themselves. It is only when those desires become perverse that they become bad. He encourages his readers to follow God hedonistically. "Delight yourself in the LORD."

    Surely, you see that what makes you a self-proclaimed "bitch" is that you have desires and that you are determined to do what you need to do to have those desires fulfilled. But what do you say to people who have really evil and unjust desires? John Piper, the Bible, and I all say that the person with evil and unjust desires needs an inner transformation. The desires need to change. This can only happen if a miracle happens on the inside of a person.

    But truly - the desire for pleasure and joy are not wrong. And we tend to be half-hearted creatures. Another thing to read is "The Weight of Glory" by C.S. Lewis. He confronts this godless, half-hearted attitude that so many in the church have. He says, "We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."

    Anyway, if you reject Christianity, at least don't reject it with the idea that God wants to kill your desires for joy and pleasure. God doesn't want to kill that desire. Rather, He wants to be the one to fulfill that desire.

    Grace and peace to you.

  • CE, you are a very literal person, are you not?

    I have never believed that any benevolent god would want to kill the pleasures for his/her children. One of the main reasons I reject organized religions is because they are created by humans, primarily males. Men have throughout history been threatened by the physical and emotional power possessed by women, and in an effort to retain control have waged a war against the intrinsic sense of self worth that is our birthright. Unfortunately, too many women have embraced the degradation and sense of inferiority as their rightful burden.

    I am currently unable to go into a deep philosophical or intellectual evaluation of this commentary you have posted, as I am under the influence of codeine for a particularly painful bout of shingles. I will say, though, that you have obviously missed the point of my post. I do not believe that I am truly an objectionable person, I am using sarcasm and other tools to point out the duplicity of our society.

    Oh, and as for suggested reading, why don't you try "Drawing Down the Moon" by Margot Adler. It just might give you some idea from whence I derive.

    More later when I can think straight.

    Firstly, I would contend that Christianity wasn't created by any people, but that it is the revelation of God.

    Secondly, are you suggesting that all men, the vast majority of men, or some men, or a small minority of men have committed themselves to the degradation of women?

    It is interesting to note how much the gospels hold women in high esteem. Luke, in particular, takes careful note of some of those women.

    The gospel does preach that there are fundamental differences between men and women. Not that one is any less valuable than the other - but that there are differences.

    The greatest commandments of the Bible are to love God and to love one another. All of us are called to be humble - not just women. Walking in humility is not to think less of yourself. Rather, it is to think of yourself less. Walking in humility is to graciously acknowledge that God did a real good job when He created us. It is to think of ourselves accurately - not higher or lower than what we ought. To think more highly of ourselves is to embrace arrogant narcism. To think more lowly is to insult God - which, when you think about it, is pretty arrogant as well.

    God created us with great value. To think otherwise is wrong.

  • CE,

    I have read far too many of your comments and their rebuttals on the blogs of others to even consider engaging you in battle. You are far too single-minded to see any point of view other than your own, and I am far too busy to even begin to show you how discriminatory and unwholesome your stance. People with your mindset are not to be followed; they are to be avoided. I think Jesus Christ himself would be disappointed by your intolerance. Religious zealotry frequently fails in it's intent and rather causes the intended targets to flee for their lives.

    Peace be with you. I mean you no disrespect.

  • Anonymous,

    You are far more civil to me than many other people. Props to you for that. I am not in the least offended by your comment.

    "You are far too single-minded to see any point of view other than your own, and I am far too busy to even begin to show you how discriminatory and unwholesome your stance. People with your mindset are not to be followed; they are to be avoided. I think Jesus Christ himself would be disappointed by your intolerance."

    John 14:6 - "In reply, Jesus declared, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father, except by me.'" - Jesus of Nazareth

    John 3:3 - "No man can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." - Jesus of Nazareth

    Acts 4:12 - "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven gien to men by which we must be saved." - The Apostle Peter

    And there are hundreds of other passages that make similar assertions. So, on what do you base your opinion that Jesus Christ would not approve of my intolerance? I have no doubts that I often grieve the heart of God because of my sin. But given the world in which we live, do you think that Jesus would not have his followers speak the truth in love? Or do you think that Jesus doesn't want us to have confidence in his identity? Or what?

    Have you invented a construct of Jesus Christ in your mind? Is that the Jesus that disapproves of my evangelism? Are your thoughts about Jesus accurate? How do you know?

    Does Jesus not want his followers to be pure and single-minded? Does He not want his followers to be confident and bold? Does He want us to be passive about a world that is lost and in sin? Does He want us to tolerate everything?

    Make no mistake: God is ready and willing to accept anyone regardless of their sin, if they will humbly come to God on His terms. Jesus died for us, the just for the unjust, so that even a sinner like myself can know forgiveness and salvation. If I say that there are multiple paths to salvation, then I have abandoned orthodox Christianity, the Bible, and Jesus. I have essentially said that Jesus didn't need to die. The death He died was not merely to make a point. It was not merely a wake-up call. His blood pays for the salvation of sinners. He provided the propitiation for us, so that we can have the atonement. Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sins. The good news is that He shed His blood for us. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

    But if you (or anyone else) says, "I don't need Jesus. I don't need His sacrifice. I can make it to heaven/salvation on my own merits, by my own good works." That is to treat Christ with contempt.

    Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart. Today is the day of salvation. He is holding out His arms to you. He loves you.

    If I'm wrong, then I'm a madman, the Bible is a bunch of crap, and the Jesus that the Bible describes was a crazy man or a sadistic liar. If I am wrong, then don't follow me. Don't follow my teaching. Don't follow my Jesus. But if I'm right, then humble yourself and pray and seek God's face. If I am right, then ask God to reveal His glory to you.

    But I'm either wrong or I'm right. I can't be in between. Either Christ was who He said He was - the Son of God - and that He has graciously provided the only way of salvation, or He was completely wack. The idea that He was a good man or a good prophet is the wishful thinking of people who don't want to surrender all to follow Jesus, but also feel really nervous about completely rejecting Him. So, in their minds, they create their own construct of Jesus. This construct isn't based on anything, but it is a delightful lie that they feel comfortable believing. Get all the blessings without having to deal with the hard doctrines. (Of course, those people aren't really getting all the blessings.) The Jesus of Scripture gave us hard teachings. He talked about hell several times. He warned people: "Unless you repent, you will perish." He was a radical, and He started a social/religious movement that has absolutely changed the world. He has not left you the option of keeping Him at arm's distance. You can call him a lunatic or a devil or a sadist or a liar. Or you can bow at His feet and call him Lord. But do yourself favor: Don't call him a good man or a great prophet. "He has not left that option open to us. He did not intend to." -last quote is from C.S. Lewis' Mere Christianity Actually, I pretty much borrowed this argument from Lewis. Check it out if you get a chance. Lewis writes much better than I do.
